Regency Healthcare Centre’s Alzheimer’s Care unit is designed specifically for those with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias. Our programs were developed by a qualified team of Alzheimer’s specialists to meet the clinical, medical and emotional needs of our patients.
This special unit is a secure wing; the layout is simple and uncomplicated so that residents can easily find their way around. It is a safe, supportive environment where residents are cared for by staff educated in the disease process. Our staff is dedicated to the unit which allows them to establish close relationships with the residents and to become an extended family. All of these staff members, from nurses to housekeepers and everyone in between, are trained and continually re-educated to understand the special needs that these residents have.
Our intensive activity-focused programming contains life-enriching and enjoyable activities that promote independence while preserving dignity. The activities are physically, creatively and socially stimulating and they emphasize residents’ abilities.
We hold regular family support groups run by the Director of Alzheimer’s Care. These support groups provide information and education on the disease process, discuss the latest developments in the field and help families understand what they may expect during the course of the illness. These groups also offer the opportunity for family members to meet and share experiences with each other. See the "News and Events" portion of our website for more information.
We are committed to offering our residents and their families the highest quality care and treatment at each stage of the disease. Our Alzheimer’s Care unit removes the worry and daily stress of caregiving so that families may better enjoy the time spent with their loved ones.
